The
Reading Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1989. On January 1st 2000,
The R.C.C. merged with the North Reading Business Association to form
the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce. Both groups of business
people desire a stronger voice in the development of their respective
towns on issues concerning the business community. The Reading-North
Reading Chamber of Commerce continues to grow and become a strong,
active member of the business and residential community. The Chamber
keeps its members aware of issues concerning them on both the state
and local levels, or issues that impact the business community as
a whole.
The Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers
who work for the benefit of the community as a whole. The Reading-North
Reading Chamber of Commerce is a vital organization that serves
to foster pride and promote business in the towns of Reading and
North Reading. When you shop and do business in either town, you
support the businesses that support your community.
The two main activities that Chamber members are involved
with are:
Annual Holiday Lighting Festivals held in both the towns of
Reading and North Reading
Reading
- The Annual Reading Holiday Lighting Festival is held in down
town Reading the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The event is free
to the public. The Chamber sponsors visits with Santa, trolley
rides, hay wagon rides, characters, holiday music and entertainment.
At the conclusion of the event the trees on the Common are lit
by Santa himself. Not only does the Chamber fund the event, the
Chamber also funds the strands of lights and the electricity to
keep them lit throughout the holiday season.
North Reading - The Annual North Reading Holiday
Lighting Festival is held the first Sunday in December. This event
is free to the public. The Chamber sponsors visits with Santa,
hay wagon rides, characters, holiday stories in the Flint Memorial
library, holiday music and entertainment. At the conclusion of
the event a Christmas tree on the Common is lit by Santa himself.
Not only does the Chamber fund this event, but the Chamber also
purchased the holiday wreaths that adorn the lamp posts around
the North Reading Common throughout the holiday season.
Both events have become models for other towns to emulate.
